Attorney Charged with Robbery of Pennsylvania Convenience Store

On Behalf of | Nov 13, 2013 | Robbery

A 50 year old, female attorney is behind bars, unable to post bail on a Lebanon County, Pennsylvania robbery charge. Kathy Laurino Yeatter is accused of robbing the Sunoco A-Plus Market on Routes 72 and 419 in West Cornwall Township on November 12, 2013. She was taken into custody without incident shortly after police pulled over her vehicle in response to a 911 dispatch.

The most bizarre aspect of this crime are the demographic features of the defendant. Attorneys are not always law-abiding citizens, but attorneys are far more likely to steal through white collar crimes like fraud, embezzlement, theft by deception or theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, rather than through a “blue collar’ crime like robbery. Also, despite all the strides women have made towards gender equality over the past century, robbery remains very much a male-dominated crime; females are far more likely to commit retail thefts or pass bad checks than commit a robbery or burglary. Lastly, Attorney Yeatter’s age does not fit the profile of a typical robber. Robberies are far more common among defendants under 30.

Ms. Yeatter was once licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, but the Pennsylvania Supreme Court website indicates that she is under administrative suspension. She also previously practiced law in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but she is under administrative suspension in that state as well. One can only wonder what series of events unraveled in Ms. Yeatter’s life to send her on such a downward spiral For Ms. Yeatter’s sake, I hope there are some strong mitigating factors, which her own attorney can use to argue for a favorable plea agreement.
