MATT MCCLENAHEN: A very high percentage of my clients, being students, have never been in trouble with the legal system before. Therefore, I try to take every step possible to reassure them, help them through the process, and help their parents through the process because it's not just affecting the student or the defendant. It's also affecting the whole family.

One of the first things I do is to have the student client sign a waiver of attorney-client confidentiality so I'm allowed to talk to his or her parents. I think it's important for the parents to be involved in the case. I try to do everything I can to not only guide the client through the process but also guide the family through the process.

A lot of parents of Penn State students do live far away. Some of them live in California. Some of them live in other countries. But I am willing to take as much time as needed on the telephone to discuss the case with these out of town parents.

I do offer an initial free consultation. And during that initial consultation, I will review the charges against you. And I will gather all the facts from you. And then I will try to make a determination as to the best course of action to take in your case.
